Art Lessons
Now accepting new art students.
The theory behind my teaching is basically three fold:
1) Teach the student how to look at things with an artist's eye.
2) Allow the student to delve into different mediums for their art.
3) Create an environment where art grows into a discipline for the
enjoyment of the individual.
Lessons will guide the student with exercises that encourage skill sets helping them better express themselves artistically. What does this mean? I will provide instruction involving the elements (shape, color, value, form, texture, and space) and the principles of art (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity/variety).
Note to parents:
What I want the parent to understand is that this is a process. The lessons may not seem to produce "Picasso" prints or works of "Warhol", but they will be instructed in the foundations (elements and principles) and encouraged to practice what they learn from their sessions beyond their hour with me. For some, the hour a week is all they may want to spend and that is not a loss. As I stated, they will be learning the foundations and for some the process doesn't show itself immediately. Please encourage students by praising their efforts. Finding out you have a child prodigy is great reward, but expecting that takes the fun out of art.

What will students learn:
Drawing- The beginner and intermediate student will need to be able to sit for an hour and the advanced student should be able to sit for 1.5 hours. Both will learn to look at things with an artist's eye and receive instruction with a variety of exercises to enforce this. An artist's eye refers to looking at how a subject matter is made up of shapes and noting their reference to surrounding objects.
Multi-media- It is my belief that there are many valuable lessons with craft oriented or multi-media inspired projects. I incorporate these projects between drawing sessions to engage students in other art forms to compliment the drawing aspect of art. There may be added cost if the projects require media such as clay. Included in this section is the use of chalk, oil pastels, paper manipulation, and sculpture (to name a few).
Painting- Students will explore using acrylic and watercolor.
Some students take a little longer, some whip right through their projects. Time is difficult to control, but I will do my best to maintain the set time of sessions.
In the event that work requires dry time, their project may be left with me until next class at no extra cost :)
